The Lost Art of Pilgrimageby Samone Myers Director of EarthCURE.org When was the last time you felt serene? Does the mental chatter keep you from going asleep? How often do you experience joy? All of these things and more can be remedied through self contemplation, raising your awareness, and what some refer to as “pilgrimage.” For the ancients, pilgrimage was an inherent part of life. Whether it was a Native American Vision Quest, an Aborigine “Walk About,” or during ceremonies honoring the Solstice and Equinoxes, all of these were forms of pilgrimage that served many beneficial purposes. Even not so many decades ago, you may recall hearing your parents say, “Kids, it is time to go outside and play.” Unknowingly, this too, was a form of pilgrimage. However, this latest example has been stripped away from Western Society. Many neighborhoods are built of concrete, trees are bull-dozed down, and walls are too high to see over. Rarely do you see a child outside, let alone “playing.” Instead, you see children mimicking adults with an IPOD in their ear oblivious to the world, focused on texting with their cell phone, or rushing here and there looking only where they are walking. And since Western culture has spread world-wide, this has caused a global loss of an important part of life: pilgrimage. You might ask why pilgrimage is necessary. The most important aspect is that it serves to remind us of our connections to Earth, each other and all that is. Experiencing a pilgrimage in nature also assists in improving health by reducing stress. Typically we are enveloped by noise, pollution, and frequencies that can be harmful. Yet most people have numbed themselves to the point of no longer being observant of what is in their surroundings. It only seems apparent to them when they remove themselves from that environment by going to a spa or for a hike. Pilgrimage can be done in nature, a sacred space, as well as on a journey alone or with others of like-mind. If you are not in a position to go on a spiritual retreat or journey, as it is with many people globally, then start by creating a place in your home that is just for you to use for this purpose. For those in the city and/or noisy apartment complex, find a nearby park. Be conscientious and specific to your needs in designing this space to be for clearing your mind of mental chatter, reading, meditation, and/or visualizing your desires. A designed sacred space with intentions from the heart allows us to create desires from clarity rather than from social consciousness patterns. For those in a position to go on a pilgrimage as it was intended, there are many journeys which you can go on that facilitate the perfect experience. It depends on what is needed for you in the moment. Perhaps you need to tap back into your Lemurian roots. If so, I suggest going to parts of the world in which the energy is prevalent. Hawaii and Mt. Shasta in California are best known for this. Some people have unresolved issues from Atlantis and may feel a pull to the area around the Bahamas. For every need, there is a corresponding place on Earth that can best assist you. Just search the Internet using key words, e.g. sacred sites, spiritual journey or metaphysical travel to see what resonates with you. In addition, from a sacred place or journey your God Voice can be heard, and the development of unused abilities to include clairvoyance, enhancing the ability to see auras and other dimensional Beings, direct recall of “past” lives, etc. There are also spiritual journeys designed to raise your consciousness and assist with Self Mastery using places on the Earth that were designed for this, such as Egypt. Egypt is a very special place since many of the original temples, and of course, the pyramids are available to use which were designed for the Mysteries Schools. Additionally, the Great Pyramid marks the central vortex of the planet, and the energy is as powerful today as it was in times past. In whatever kind of pilgrimage is chosen, you will find that even the simplest forms enable feelings of joy, serenity and new found motivation. “Feeling” is essential because it this is what the soul retains of the experience. We are able to recreate the feeling where ever we are, regardless of what is happening. So even in the most hostile environments, just pause, and bring up the feelings necessary to bring you back into a state of balance. It may be joy or what it is like to not have a care in the world. In so doing, we revive the art of pilgrimage.
