To Thinkor Not To Think? by Kim Vazquez Excerpted from her book New From the Inside Out: How to Transform Your Mind and Your Life Surely if we have an important situation to deal with, we need to examine it from every angle in order to find the perfect solution. It this true? I say no. Continuing to think on a problem will not easily bring you the solution. If anything, it muddies the waters of inspiration. Chasing thoughts around, dwelling on perceived problems, is the equivalent of whipping up a hurricane to spin around you and then hoping inspiration can still reach you through the obstacle you’ve created. Here’s a different path. First, do the footwork. Gather information. Do your research. If you have a wise friend, seek her counsel. If you have a friend who’s been through the same thing, ask what his solution was. Gather information quickly. Second, now that you have the data, take it off rotation in your mind and instead ask your Creator to reveal the answer. Don’t allow yourself to think about it anymore. If your thoughts bring it up, redirect your mind to something else, perhaps an affirmation: I trust the answer will reveal itself. Let it go and have faith that your resolution is forthcoming. I bet you already have examples of this in your own life. Do you remember a time when you received the perfect answer to a question out of the blue? Say you were taking a shower or walking your dog, not thinking about a darn thing, and—wham! You got new insight. When divine guidance arrives, it usually comes with such clarity that my response is, Of course! That’s the answer. There’s no angst, there’s no turmoil, there’s just an Of course. When you allow your mind to settle down and release the question that needs to be answered, then you’re opening the space for God, your Creator, or the Universe to reveal the solution to you. Watch for your answer to arrive in the form of an inspired thought, a message, a symbol in a dream, or a feeling that suddenly washes over you. Perhaps you hear words whispered quietly into your mind in the early morning of a new day. Your solution may show up in the lyrics of a song on the radio, or out of the mouth of a guest on the Oprah show, or in a magazine article that suddenly catches your attention. I’ve received random e-mails in answer to exactly what I’d been praying for. I’ve opened books to the exact pages I needed to read at that time. When you’re seeking answers, remember to listen. Listen to the people around you. Yes, even listen to those who seem to have nothing to teach you, because our Creator will often speak to us through the mouths of others and he doesn’t discriminate between his children. We are all messengers for each other. The answers are there. They’re waiting to reveal themselves. It’s much easier to hear them when the mind isn’t cluttered with the useless chatter of constant thinking.
